Koya-san Day 2

We got up at 6am to watch the monks pray and chant. It was pretty cool, but the incense was sickly combined with the freezing cold. After we walked on this stoney path in our barefeet and back to bring us good health. It did hurt, just a little. Then off for our J style breakfast, rice and miso soup.

First we went to Karukayado temple, which tell the tale of a father and son who practised together in this temples as monks side-by-side, the father never to reveal his true identity to his son. Next we went to Kongobuji temple.

Lots to see here and its the head temple for this type of Buddhism in Japan. Here is the largest rock garden in Japan. Shows 2 dragons amongst the clouds. We had tea and a rice cake. There were many beautiful paintings on the sliding doors inside.

The Japanese maple tree.

In Garan, the main temple complex, there is a 48 metre high pagoda, inside there were some beautiful statues and paintings. In the nearby pond we fed the carp bread and watched them go wild, but I think they're uglyyyyy!

I ate some curry rice. The we walked up to Daimon (the grand entrance gate to the complex) and took a stroll down the mountain amongst the bears!! After we visited this little guy, supposed to be good for your health if you pay him a visit, we also soaked another Buddha, not sure why, but another woman did it first so....
Then we headed home (on the wrong train of course) :)
